Working Deep

Most mechanics manuals now give you the choice to work in Deep B or Deep C if you’re in a 3 or 4 man crew.

Which position do you prefer?

Is either position better for seeing this tag on a runner sliding to the back side of the 2nd base?

Which position is better for a double play situation?

Is there a possibility that you shouldn’t be “deep” at all?

  1. In 3-4 man I prefer to be deep. Closer to the play. I thing I get a better view.

2-man I prefer to be in short “B” for a better look at at a pick off at first.

p.s. – I like the new Blog Look better.

  2. If your in the deep “B” it is good, but if your too deep the play will blow up on you. You should be by the apex around the pitching mound, and about 2-3 steps in from the grass… this will allow your body to turn earlier on the play…

  3. Even in deep B you gan be too deep. This guy is too deep. He is on the grass line when his starting position should be several steps in with his shoulders square to the 3rd base dugout. As the throw to second is made he should turn with the throw using a cross over step and be in better position to see this swipe tag.
