IMO, if they are expressing anger at themselves, I’m less likely to toss. One time I told a player to “keep it under control” and he did.
If the player is a pitcher or position player doesn’t come into account for me.
I got this as an automatic ejection. In my opinion his actions are a travesty of the game. Joe West got his 2 cents in to Roenicke, backing up his partner and letting him know that rubbish is on you coach.
